This is my third time visiting Moparru orphanage and every time is as magical as the last. It is without doubt, one of the best places to volunteer - Raju and Lavanya go above and beyond to help you and of course care for the children.
I feel completely safe when I volunteer here - I have been involved in teaching, painting projects, helping around the orphanage and of course playing games with the children. That being said - Moparru really needs help every month to improve their financial situation. Funds are tight and sometimes the situation is not good. An increase in sponsorship and volunteering would make such a huge difference.
Most other places that you volunteer at are run like a business - this is not. It is clear that Moparru orphanage have the children's best interests at heart, it is an ethical place to volunteer and I look forward to coming every single time. Many children go on to further education which shows the dedication of the team in helping every child to thrive in their surroundings. There is so much fun at Moparru and I urge everyone to come and volunteer here, you won't regret it!

Maggie and Barry Waller Testimonial December 2025
We can’t speak highly enough of the dedication, love and care that Raju and Lavanya Pallikonda bestow on the children at Moparru. Without exception, every child has had a tough time in one way or another and here they find new beginnings, new friends and are truly cared for as part of the big family . They go off happily to school every day, help one another and do their chores  without grumbling, often making a game out of helping. My husband Barry and I have just returned from 2 1/2 weeks at Moparru. Neither of us had been able to visit since 2019 and it was so very good to be back. What a joy and a privilege! Living alongside Raju and Lavanya and the children is always a fantastic experience. They make us so welcome and I’ve never seen so many smiles! This is a real home, albeit for a large family! We did some fundraising before we visited and were thrilled with the generosity of friends, family and total strangers. We went with a heavy suitcase full of games, books, tee shirts, pretty bracelets and hair accessories, puzzles and all kinds of goodies. We raised £3000 in all and were able to go shopping with Raju for rice bags, new school bags, soap, a volleyball and net, a cricket set, skipping ropes etc. We asked the children on the first day we were there what we should put on our shopping list and we gradually worked our way through it meeting all their wishes! The main part of the money was spent on the next stage of the building of two new girls’ rooms, bathrooms and a volunteers’ bedroom on the second storey. These will enable the girls to have more space and privacy and provide a bedroom for volunteers. Currently, Raju and Lavanya give up their one bedroom for us whenever we visit. It’s hard to explain the joy of Moparru. Life is very basic with some tap water (cold) and some pumped and heated over a fire. Lavanya cooks on just two rings,  the fire and with a pressure cooker, producing economical and nutritious meals for  40+ children and several adults three times a day. She is a marvel! Please , please consider sponsoring a child. We have about 20 sponsors but it’s very hard for Raju to make ends meet. The children pray for all the sponsors every night. If you’re interested in becoming a sponsor, making a donation, or volunteering at Moparru, please contact me on maggieducation@aol.com or you can find me, Maggie Waller, on Facebook.
